On riding the ‘Pokemon Go’ craze when it was first released, foodpanda wanted to tap on this trend for their social media marketing that month. They approached me to produce their ‘Pandamon’ characters and social media posts. It was a fun experience working on the characters and short gifs for their social media platforms.
The Pandamon Series
Similar to the Pokemon series, foodpanda decides to come out with their very own ‘Pandamon’ with 3 evolution stage for a specific ‘Pandamon’ type – fire, water, grass. The base character still remains a Panda, however they all have different powers and become stronger as they evolve.
My initial Pandamon designs were rejected as despite it being a panda, it has to have the face of the foodpanda mascot and follow strictly to the guidelines. I made some adjustments and produced a series of Pandamon for their social media marketing.
The foodpanda social media marketing started off with various teasers of iconic locations in Singapore that Pandamons might appear, such as the Central Fire Station, Gardens by the Bay and the Merlion at Sentosa. These location hints the different types of Pandamon that Foodpanda are going to introduce – grass, water and fire type.
After getting the audience to know these Pandamons, stage 2 was having Pandamon battles, just like the battles in Pokemon Go. Audience get to guess who is going to win that round of battle and stand a chance to win discount vouchers.
These got to increase the awareness of Foodpanda’s branding by its iconic Panda character and interacting with their loyal customers via social media.
